Music tracks in hard drive players are sorted by its tag information which exists within the music files themselves, not by the folders that they are in.
Creative MediaSource offers several methods of transferring content between a PC and portable players:
- Using Creative Sync Manager (recommended, good for initial transfer
or subsequent updates)
- Creating playlists, Smart Playlists (recommended).
- Transfer individual tracks from PC Music Library (not recommended
if you have a large collection of music).
- Transfer individual tracks or folders from My Computer (not recommended
if you have a large collection of music)
.
The music tracks on hard drive players are sorted by the tag information
stored within the music tracks themselves, not by the folders that store them.
When you transfer music content using the first two methods, it not only transfers
the tracks to the Music Library on the player, it also creates a folder
structure based on their tag information. In subsequent transfers, it prompts
you for an action (skip or replace) if it detects that a file already exists
on your player.
When you use the last two methods to manually transfer individual tracks
or folders, it is critical to select the correct destination location on your
player. The default location is the player's root folder or the Music folder.
If you unknowingly transferred tracks or folders to a player's root folder,
the "Music" folder, or an incorrect folder, it will not warn you of existing
tracks if they are in different locations (or folders).
As a result, you may notice that there are duplicate tracks being listed in
the album view or artist view.
For example, the individual tracks displayed in the image above were transferred
to three different locations on an ZEN Vision:M. These tracks can be found
in "Celine Dion" folder (the correct location), the root folder (under Music),
in a "Wrong Folder". When you choose to view all tracks for a specific album,
in this case "Let's talk about love", you will find that each track is being
listed three times.
- Connect your player to your PC.
- Open Creative MediaSource or Creative ZEN Media Explorer.
Transfer all music tracks from your player to your PC if your PC no longer
has these tracks.
- Delete all individual tracks from your player's root folder, the "Music" root
folder, and from the "wrong folder".
To avoid creating duplicate tracks on a player, do not transfer individual
tracks or folders from a PC. Instead, use either Creative Sync Manager, or
create and transfer the playlists.
If you must manually transfer individual tracks or individual folders, it
is recommended that you create the folder structure on the player first
if these folders do not already exist.
To prevent duplicate tracks being unintentionally copied to a player, it
is strongly recommended that you review the tag information of your music
collections, and make sure the tags are correct and up to date. The most
essential tags for MP3 and WMA files are Artist, Album Title, Genre, Track
Title, Track No, and Year of Release as illustrated below.
